So you have a couple vacation days that you need to use or lose before the end of the year? What to do? Where to go? What if I tell you that you can take a series of day trips for less than ordering in for a staycation on the couch? Well [teeth suck], here I am to tell you. Even if you do not have any vacation days to burn through you can easily play hookie [raised eyebrow]. I won’t tell.
I have two words for you – Mega Bus. Yes! This is how you will get from point A to point B. Your destinations, however, are metropolitan fabu [short for fabulous].
I have two mega day trips that will cost you less than tolls and gas than if you drove yourself should make you open your wallets and simply go! Free WiFi?! And all you have to do is sit back and enjoy the ride. Okay, so enough suspense. If you are in the Philadelphia area you options is to go where the apples are big [blank stare] – New York City or where my Uncle O resides [side eye] – Washington DC. Now just hear me out. These are phenomenal day trips and depending upon which one you chose depends upon how impressive your day can be; understanding that they are both equally filled with amazingly frugal and free stuff to do.
Sidebar: These are great day date getaways [boom-chicka-now-now]. You can thank me later [wink]!
For the sake of this story I just threw in a random date so you can get a feel for the awesomeness I am sharing with you. So your random day trip will be on Monday November 2, 2015. Megabus from Philly RT to New York is now $11.50 per person. Now, if that is too steep [side eye] then Megabus from Philly to DC RT is $9 per person. Yes! You read correctly. For less than 20 smackaroos you can go and splurge to take a partner in crime if you so desire. [See the slide show below for specific times and prices for both the NY & DC travel for the prices listed above]
So what do you do once you get there? Well that is totally up to you but I suggest you check Groupon.com, Goldstar.com [especially for New York Shows] and LivingSocial.com. Some fabulous things that I would get into would include [but not limited to]:
Whatever you do --- do not overspend [teeth suck]. Give yourself a budget. Spend no more than $100 bucks for the day; including your travel cost. I know that seems like little to nothing to spend but if you want this to be a frugal day trip then you must learn to have fun within your means. If you need help with that aspect of your planning please reach out to me India L. Trotter on my Facebook Page Fabulously Frugal Travel Tips!
Note: Megabus travels to/from many different destinations. I only use Philly because I live there but you too can save. Look for a bus stop near you.

- Catch a Broadway/Off Broadway show
- Go to a television show taping [Wendy Williams is really a fun show]
