I am going to seriously need folks to stop their whining [teeth suck]. Yes! I said it. Just stop it. In the world of air travel you have become accustomed to a few things; free checked baggage, a free non-spirited beverage or some peanuts. Wait! Do they still serve peanuts? I think now it’s pretzels. Well, whatever the freebies are they are normally are at the heels of much higher [let me repeat, “much higher”] airfares. So you pay $200, $300, or even $400 dollars for a round trip ticket to [let’s just say] Miami on a [what I’ll call] a premier airline. Is the return greater than if you had paid $67 dollars for the round trip ticket, $25 for the checked bag each way and $8 for a drink and a rice crispy treat? You do the math [insert game show music]. Yeah, you might feel like you were nickled and dimed on the no frills flight but truly mathematically you come out the economical victor. Do you not? And you are complaining again about what? Seems to me that some travelers have been brainwashed to think to pay more is better. When you see it inked out in detail does it seem better [raised eyebrow].
Listen, stop complaining about Frontier Airlines and Spirit Airlines being “cheap” and charging for everything. Surely you should be upset with the other airlines who have been overcharging you for years and you seem to get well…. [crickets]. What more do you get? When you fly an economy airlines you should expect to pay for the “extras”. There are no hidden fees. These airlines tell you all of their fees and charges on their websites. Heck, the online sites ask you do you want them [the extras] during the checkout process. Am I missing something here? The caveat to all of this is if you plan correctly you can really work this economy pricing to your advantage and have a much smoother travel experience. Here’s what I suggest you do:
I think sometimes travelers are just looking for something to complain about. If you are already arguing with the attendants about charges that you very well should have expected then of course you are going to have a non-pleasurable travel experience. But if [and only if] you expect to get what you pay for then you [like me] will see that this economy airfare thing is pretty A OK and the advantage will be all yours. Okay, carry on.

The caveat to all of this is if you plan correctly you can really work this economy pricing to your advantage and have a much smoother travel experience. Here’s what I suggest you do:
- Learn how to pack a backpack or under the seat bag. They are free. If you are going to travel for only a couple of days or are going to a beach destination how many articles of clothing do you really need?
- Take snacks. Grab some chips, make a sandwich or pick up something by the gate. That way your stomach wont growl when you are mid-flight. Oh, this goes for the soda and beverages too.
- Bring along a jacket, pillow and a travel blanket if you are always cold. It gets sub zero [at least it always feels that way to me]. The economy airlines either are not going to have a pillow or blanket or [you guessed it] they will charge you for it. Don’t knock their hustle.
- Women --- wear a fanny pack. Not the old school fanny pack but they have some real fashionable hip bags [we shall call them]. You cannot carry a purse and a bag. That counts as two items and come with [you guessed it] a fee. So if you have on a fanny or hip bag [blank stare] under your jacket … well, you have just circumvented the system [teeth suck].
