It is soOOooooOOoooo very apropos that I discuss giving thanks on this Thanksgiving Day. Now lemme say that recently I learned a different historical account detailing the root of the Thanksgiving holiday. I am a somewhat conflicted about celebrating it full throttle. I won't rain on your parade and get all militant with my spiel. I will save that for another day [raised eyebrow]. As a matter of fact, If you are about to dive in and enjoy high doses of tryptophan today [by all means] have at it. Heck, save me a plate [teeth suck]. Listen, I was raised with the tradition of giving thanks; the re-definition of something really bad into something good. Essentially, I get it. Today is the day that many families come together, laugh, eat, drink and create memories. But errrrr ummmm [clears throat] not before we discuss one thing [side eye].
Today is not the only day of the year that you need to be thankful. In addition to the fourth Thursday of November you should always keep in the forefront the blessings that have been bestowed upon your life. Yeah, sometimes things get hard. Heck, life throws you some curve balls; situations arise, money is tight, your car breaks down, your man cheats, your boss is an asshole, somebody ate all your pop tarts [lip curl] or whatever gets your panties all in a bunch. Let us throw in some human desires [wants]. You want a new house. You want a new car. You want more money. You want a new job. You want someone to replace your gawwwwddd dayuuuum pop tarts [blank stare]. You mentally dwell in all these things and the next thing you know you have downward spiraled into living a life of complaint, focusing on your lack, living in woe and dwelling in and on the negativity. Stop it! You are forgetting the favor that you have on your life. If you do not think you have favor then you need more than this blog to help you [teeth suck].
Check this out. As you rattle off the things you are grateful for today whilst gathered around family and fowl here is some real food for thought. That euphoric feeling that you look forward to each year can be carried throughout your year on a daily basis. Do not go back to the mundane routine of believing life owes you more without you doing your simple part. Understand that "more" will come with the adjustment of your attitude. Give thanks daily! Think on this [and I am about to go spiritual on you], why would God [or whoever is your supreme deity] give you more if you fail to appreciate what you have? Do not fail yourself. Set your sights and your level of understanding above your situations and make everyday your day of thanksgiving. Mark my words! Your wants and desires will absolutely become the things you now have to be thankful for. Okay, carry on.
