Some of you may have heard the parabolic joke of the woman [or was it a man] of faith that was caught in the rising flood. Her faith is so strong that she is convinced that God will stretch his hand down from the Heavens and save her in her time of need. After all that is God’s promise. In her area a disastrous flood was a brewing. All prayered up she makes her way to the second floor of the high rise building to escape the raging waters. Some local folks come by in a raft and yell to her to “get in”. She declines and says, “My God will deliver me”. The waters continue to rise and she is now finds herself on the 8th Floor. A speedboat of local folks come by and try to encourage her to “get in”. She declines and says, “My God will deliver me”. The waters are fierce and force her to the roof. The Coast Guard pulls up and the officer says “if you don’t get in surely you’ll drown.”. She declines and says, “My God will deliver me”. Of course the faithful chick drowns. She gets to Heaven and is quite perturbed. She asks God, “Why didn’t you save me?”. God said, “I sent you a raft, a speedboat and the Coast Guard. What more did you want?”
SoOoooOoOOooOo I am asking you. What more do you want [blank stare]? What is God sending you that you are turning away? What is coming across your path that you are turning your nose up at while waiting for some majestic sign from above? There are so many of you who are drowning for no damn reason except for your own poor ability to see the blessings that are being sent your way. Do you even know what being saved looks like? Over the past weeks I have heard the most ridiculous situations from some folks I consider to be pretty smart people. That leaves me attributing their lack to the misconstruction [in their mind] of what it means to be rescued. Heck, I am guilty too! Let's just add me to the group of "drowners".
- A job comes to you but its not enough money. You fail to see the potential for growth. You overlook the possibility for longevity. You turn it and the money away to continue to wait [blank stare].
- A man that comes your way. He is everything you want and more. But the fact that he treats you right, talks to you with respect and makes your heart sing is overshadowed by you and your other single homegirl's list of dumb ass material demands [eye roll].
- Opportunities that take you outside of your comfort zone. Maybe an invitation to the gym or to hot yoga [wide eyes]. But you are “comfortable in your skin” so you say “no thank you” while can barely make it up a flight of stairs without being winded [side eye].
You may be able to relate to one of these situations or have one of you own. I know I can; relate that is. Have you looked back and said if I could just go back and do something different? I bet you have. And while you can not go backwards, going forward you can be a little more in tune with your need versus your wants.
I shall close with this - God is trying to save you! Your thoughts are jaded. Your humble spirit has been corrupted by your thoughts that your rescue needs to be grandiose; some next level ISH. But you keep waiting [teeth suck]. Unless you begin to recognize that God sends you what you need and not necessarily what you think you want you will miss out on great opportunities. Some of you will continue to be broke. Some of you will continue to be single. Some of you will continue to [well] drown. It is time for a paradigm shift. Think differently. Humble yourself and start to say "thank you" instead of "no thank you" and you will recognize the blessings that pour in for what they are. Amen? Amen! Okay, carry on.
